Canon G10 promotional website for photojournalism

by Enche Tjin on April 10, 2009

Canon has launched a new promotional website geared towards photojournalists. In this mini website, we can find photojournalists experience on using Canon G10 for their work. This camera is popular for some photojournalists because its size, weight and also the cost.

Sometimes, photojournalists need to go to danger zones for assignments. It could includes dangerous crime zone or war zone. In this case, there are some possibilities that they could lose their precious camera gears. By taking G10 rather than expensive Digital SLR camera with lenses, the cost of losing them are minimized.

But of course G10 is not a perfect substitute for Digital SLR camera.

Here are major some disadvantages

  • Image quality like dynamic range, color depth is not up to par as DSLR camera
  • Can’t interchange lenses
  • Image quality in low light (high ISO setting 400 or up) is not that good
  • Not as responsive and very slow continuous burst
  • Hard to control depth of field (hard to achieve selective focus or blur the background)

Canon G10 also face some competition from other high-end compact cameras such as:

In conclusion, this camera is a good back-up camera for professionals who work in dangerous zone, but maybe a bit too heavy and bulky for casual compact camera shooters.

About the mini site, it is interesting to know about professionals experience, and see some of the photos they’ve taken.

There are many photographs on my website that were shot with a G10 and before that a G9. I’ve been documenting the Tea Party Movement here in Indiana and have been shooting mostly with these two camera’s.
