Shooting photos indoor could be frustrating especially if you only have a camera and a kit lens (lens that come with DSLR camera). There are several ways to handle this situation.
- Set high ISO but the image will be grainy (noisy), fine details will be lost.
- Set a slow shutter speed, but the image will be blurry because of camera shake or because movement of the subject.
- Use a low light lens with big aperture, but depth of field will be shallow.
- Use external flash
My favorite method is using an external flash or two! Choose a flash that can swivel, so you can bounce it to the ceiling or wall. Also get a diffuser if you have chance. It will soften and some will allow you to direct and modify the power of the light. Check out my flash diffuser comparison
With the help of external flash, white ceiling or wall, I can have a big, even light and keep my ISO setting low, slightly bigger aperture to get maximum clarity and sharpness from the lens. As a result, I can get the bright, detailed pictures.
So, if you shoots a lot indoor and you have not an external flash yet, I suggest to get one.
