by Enche Tjin on July 28, 2009

tamron_90mm_macro_lensDigital World Camera magazine (dcmag.co.uk) tested four 100mm macro lenses and one 90mm macro lens. There are from various manufacturer such from Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Tamron, Sony and Pentax. The tester evaluates image quality, features, built-quality, value for money and handling.

The result? Tamron 90mm is the best with 95 (out of 100)score while Pentax and Sony are the worst with 62 and 65. Both Canon and Nikon are pretty good at 80 and 89 and Sigma gets 76.

This result is great for everybody because Tamron 90mm is also the cheapest of all the  tested lenses and available for most cameras.

I’m in the market for a macro lens..my first one. I shoot with a Canon 5D. Tamron 90 won first place. I’m also considering the Canon 100 mm macro. Do you have a preference?
thanks,

My favorite is still Canon 100mm macro because it does not extend when focusing and also the auto focus speed and accuracy. Other than macro photography, I can use it for indoor sports as well. The downside is it is bigger and 200g heavier. It price is also a bit more expensive.
