Samsung WB1000 / TL320 : sleek design but grainy

by Enche Tjin on July 18, 2009

Samsung WB1000 / TL320 is a new and the first digital camera that incorporate OLED lcd display. This is a new breakthrough in screen design. OLED display provides better clarity and visibility under bright sun. Viewing angle of the screen is also wider.

WB1000 design is pretty unique. It has two analog indicators: battery life and memory card. While it is less informative than digital display, but I think it is quite helpful for users.Specification wise, this camera has most of the features digital camera users need such as 12 megapixel image resolution, good image stabilization (you can shoot as low as 1/8 shutter speed), good zoom range 24-120mm and full manual mode plus semi-automatic mode such as Aperture & shutter priority.

Unfortunately, the image quality is not as good as other digital cameras. Although Samsung WB1000 has wide ISO range (80-3200), the results are grainy even in ISO 100 and unacceptable above ISO 400.

Selling at around $335 (street), this camera will likely to appeal for enthusiasts who will appreciate the classic design and new OLED screen. For professionals, this camera could be a good scouting camera. You will love it as long you don’t demand absolute clean, perfect images.
