Camera setting for shooting candlelight vigil

by Enche Tjin on August 29, 2009

Shooting candlelight vigil could be frustating for many people. But actually, it is pretty simple. The solution is to get proper equipment and correct setting. Any digital SLR camera will be ok, but you will need low light lens of f/1.8 or better. If you have full frame camera like Nikon D700 which is great in low light, f/2.8 is sufficient.

The setting I used for image above is

Aperture f/2.8, Shutter Speed 1/30, ISO 6400

If you use regular digital SLR camera (APS-C), then I recommend you to have this setting

Aperture f/1.4, Shutter Speed 1/30, ISO 1600

But you will need to be really steady when doing the shot. If your camera have built-in stabilization, then it won’t be a problem. If not, you might want to use a monopod.

If you are using tripod, this is even better, just set your ISO to 800,  shutter speed at 1 sec and Aperture at f/4
