According to Canon Rumors website, Canon is going to announce two new EF-S lenses, Canon 15-85mm IS USM and Canon 18-135mm IS. Both lenses are EF-S lenses which means they are optimized for Canon APS-C cameras such as Canon EOS Rebel, 40D, 50D and upcoming Canon 7D.
I saw the EF-S 15-85mm IS USM is an improvement over Canon EF-S 17-85mm IS USM. This compact lens are becoming more versatile. 15mm equivalent to 24mm in full frame camera which is great for landscape photoography or photojournalism. This lens might be bundled with the new Canon 7D. The 18-135mm IS, is a consumer grade zoom lens that offer more versatility than Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS.
With the release of these lenses, Canon try to catch up on Nikon in mid-range consumer lenses. Nikon currently has 18-105mm VR, 16-85mm VR lenses.

do you think canon will make a 17-85mm L series lens soon in 2010?? since they havent really make any l series lens this year??
Canon usually make L series lenses optimized for full frame cameras, so the answer is no, I don’t think Canon will make L lens optimized for crop sensor cameras. The macro lens is L lens.
