Why Samsung NX won’t be successful

by Enche Tjin on September 5, 2009

samsung-nx-3Samsung NX prototype first appeared last year at fall trade show, it has APS-C size sensor (same size as most of DSLRS such as Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax DSLRs), but it does not have the mirror. As the result, the body become thinner and smaller. Basically, it has the same concept as micro four third system.

Why Samsung NX system won’t be successful?

1. Looking at the latest pictures, Samsung NX lenses are big, it is equal if not bigger than regular SLR lenses.

2. Very limited lens choices (only three so far : standard zoom, telephoto zoom and pancake prime).

3. Samsung is an electronic company does not has expertise in optics such as Canon, Nikon, Olympus, etc

4. Fierce competition from micro four third system which has support of Olympus,  Panasonic and Leica

One thing that unique selling point of NX is AMOLED LCD screen, which is significantly better to view in bright light condition because it does not reflect the light.

Check out the lates Samsung NX photos from recent trade show from Photography Blog.

Samsung may delay this products until early next year.

The way i see it, they are on the way to divorce. Hoya executive recently just say to public about Pentax is looking for a new bride.

I don’t see Leica fully support micro 4/3, maybe it is a smarter choice for Leica to choose Samsung to deliver Leica lens on NX.
