Canon 1d mark V not IV according to filmmaker Phillip Bloom

by Enche Tjin on October 19, 2009

Phillip Bloom posted in his blog about the launch of Canon new professional sports camera 1d mark V (not IV) on between 22-24 October in PDN International Expo. This is align with the rumors we heard so far.

Bloom is a director / filmmaker not a photographer. Since DSLR camera has movie recording mode, many independent movie maker are very enthusiasts for Digital SLR cameras too, which is a good thing!

Bloom explained the reasoning of Canon skipping the ‘IV’ is because it is a bad number. In Japan or China, four has similar tone with the character “death” so this quite make sense.

He also posted some Canon EOS 1d mark V specs:

  • 16 MP APC-H sensor which is a 1.3 x crop
  • 11 fps continuous shooting speed
  • Video recording mode with manual exposure control and some new enhancement from Canon 7D.
  • Price: $4000+

Canon 1d mark IV will try to best Nikon D3s (also launched this month).
