Maybe no Olympus E-5 until next year, how about the fate of Four Third system?

by Enche Tjin on October 12, 2009

olympus-e-343 rumors, site dedicated for publishing news and rumors related to four third and micro four third system reported that it might be no successor to Olympus E-3 this year. Olympus E-5, a camera that widely anticipated by Olympus DSLR fans will probably will be released next year.

One of the reason is because Olympus recent success with micro four third system. Olympus E-P1 has been very popular and breaking through the best selling chart. While the micro four third system lenses and accessories has been limited, but there are Panasonic, Leica and some other companies supports the system.

Therefore, it is wise for Olympus on taking advantage of the momentum and focused on micro four third system. Olympus is expected to announce new camera soon at the end of October 2009 (possibly Olympus E-P2).

So how about the fate of four third system?

Interestingly, 43 rumors  also received information from their trusted source about the possibility that E-5 could be a micro four thirds camera (mirorless design). If that is true, this will mark the end of four third system. However, if you have four third system lenses, you still will be able to use it via special adapter.

UPDATE: Olympus might use new Trine sensor so it could accomodate 43 and micro43 lenses in the same camera body. This will make E-5 a revolutionary camera. But it might take  a while until the camera is fully developed.
