Canon T1i / 500D vs Sony A500

by Enche Tjin on January 23, 2010

Actually, it is a bit unfair to compare Canon T1i with Sony A500, because Sony A500 is designed for more experienced photographer and Canon T1i is designed for beginner. But may of you might wonder whether to get A500 or T1i instead. Currently, the price difference is about $100.

Here are the pro and cons:

Canon T1i / 500D pro

  • 3″ hi res LCD
  • 15 mp resolution vs 12 mp
  • Video recording up to full HD @ 20fps
  • A bit smaller size

Sony A500 pro

  • Tiltable LCD screen
  • sony-a500Fast AF in Live view
  • Better grip and control
  • built-in body stabilization
  • built in wireless flash trigger
  • 5 fps

From the comparison, we can see that A500 has many important benefits for still photographers compared to Canon T1i. It has better camera body, built-in stabilization, faster continuous shooting and built in wireless flash trigger. In my opinion, wireless flash trigger alone worth the premium.

However, if you want a system where you can record video, then you need to look for Canon system. T1i is quite good for HD 720p movie recording and many Canon cameras are a bit ahead in video recording capability.

It’s not that much unfair to compare with T1i and D5000.
Beginner can also use it with no problem.
Sony A550 is much better and even don’t feel that I’m missing Video.

Why videos? it’s really not wroth at all. I perfect to use my phone camera or buy camcorder.
