Folks at 1001 Noisy cameras are getting creative by posting visual price chart comparing popular Digital SLR camera models and variety of compact cameras (especially popular and advanced one).
Based on their DSLR camera chart dated 21-22 January 2010, Here are my picks for best value:
Best value under $500 = Olympus E-520
It beats Sony a230, Canon XS/1000D, Nikon d3000
Comment: At $419 with kit lens, it is the cheapest in US market. It has built-in body stabilization, live view and above average kit lens in a relatively compact form. Great for beginner in tight budget.
Best value $500-750 = Pentax k-x
It beats = Canon XSi / 450D, T1i (500D), Sony A330, A380 and Olympus E-620
Comment: It is cheap and compact. It has advanced features like video recording, auto HDR, shoot 4.7 frame per second, and awesome in low light. Why you want to waste your money for more expensive DSLR? If you live in Japan, you can choose up to 100 color combination, so you can be interesting! Best value $751-$1200 = Pentax k7
It beats Canon 50d, Sony A500, A550, Olympus E-30, Nikon D90
Comment: Previously selling at $1300 and later dropped to around $1050, Pentax K7 is great buy these days. It built like a tank, all weather proof including froze protection. It has built-in stabilization, video recording and shoots 5.2 frame per second. Weakness? not so good in low light.
Best value $1200-$2000 = Canon 7D
Best value $1200-$2000 = Canon 7D
It beats Nikon d300s, Olympus E-3
Comment: A significant step up from Canon 50D, Canon 7D break the domination of Nikon D300 series. It has new sophisticated AF system, 18 megapixel, shoots 8 frames per second, tough weather proof body and also great manual exposure control for full HD video recording.
