Canon EOS T2i, a replacement of popular Canon EOS series for beginner digital SLR camera is just announced. It shares the similar body shape of its predecessor Canon T1i, XSi and XS. The only difference lays in subtle re-arrangement of buttons. Canon T2i poised to replace Canon T1i as the most advance digital SLR for Canon. This will also push Canon XSi to the cheapest Canon beginner DSLR for 2010 holiday season.

Canon T2i has the similar image resolution to Canon advanced camera, EOS 7D, and improving the video recording mode. Now you can attach external microphone and choose variable frame rates for your movie.
One thing that unique and first in digital SLR is the LCD screen. Instead of the usual 4:3 ratio screen, Canon employs 3:2 which is wider and it has the same ratio as your sensor/image. As a result, you will get 100% coverage in live view and when you record movie.
Here is what they say in the press release:
The EOS 550D records video in full 1920×1080p HD resolution, allowing photographers to select the frame rate preferred from 30, 25 and 24fps, as well as offering 720p video at 60 and 50fps. The EOS 550D also includes a 3.5mm stereo microphone socket, enabling the use of an external microphone when capturing video.
Photographers can also take manual control over exposure settings, changing the depth of field and degree of motion blur to shoot more creatively. To provide the best possible video quality, highlight tone priority (HTP) can be set independently for movie capture, without changing any still image capture settings. In situations where the subject is further away, the EOS 550D Movie Crop function records with the central 640×480 pixel area of the sensor, creating an effective magnification of approximately seven times. The EOS 550D is the first in the EOS range to feature Movie Crop and gives consumers more flexibility to capture important moments which would otherwise be too far away.
Other than improvement in image resolution and video recording, The T2i is just the same as T1i. Therefore, T1i owners that don’t plan to record creative/artistic video don’t really need to upgrade.
T2i also has a new battery grip that has button to change aperture setting, however, the sad part is if you can’t use old battery grip.
I think that Canon sticks to their principle in launching their best sellers beginner DSLR camera, they don’t change much except the image resolution and video features. T21 is a great tool for creative multimedia artist in budget.
