Nikon D90 replacement (Nikon D7000)

by Enche Tjin on June 27, 2010

Nikon D90 will be 2 years old in 27 August 2010, it is normal for people to speculate the D90 successor. Many hope that D90 will have higher image resolution, at least 14-16 MP or more. Some demands Full HD video.

For me, 12 MP is cool. No problem with that. I rather Nikon to concentrate on its core competency as photographer tools.

I wish Nikon D90 replacement will have:

  • 12 MP image sensor
  • Better AF system, maybe 21 points system.
  • ISO up to 12800, usable up to 6400 (one stop better than D90)
  • Continuous burst up to 7 fps
  • Price: $899

This way, Nikon will keep its position as the best value mid-range camera.

UPDATE 7/21/2010 :

Nikon Rumors posted this spec as possible Nikon D90 replacement (Nikon D7000)

  • 16MP DX sensor
  • same noise performance like the D700! (up to ISO 25600)
  • full HD video recording
  • 8p/s
  • new video AF and performance
  • parts of the body will be aluminium

UPDATE  10/15/2010 : Nikon D7000 announced. Key features include:

  • 16 MP DX sensor
  • ISO 100-6400 expandable to 256000
  • 6 fps continuous shooting
  • new 39 AF point system with AF in live view mode/video
  • Magnesium alloy body
  • Price: MSRP $1199

Currently, Nikon has a huge gap in their product line between Nikon D90 (MSRP $899) and Nikon D300s (MSRP $1699). Therefore, it makes sense if the rumored camera above (some call it Nikon D8000) is placed between the two (MSRP $1299). This camera will compete directly with Canon EOS 50D (MSRP $1099) or its replacement.

AF fine tunning to compensate for back-focusing/front-focusing lenses!
