Canon S95 – minor upgrades from S90

by Enche Tjin on August 20, 2010

Canon recently announces Canon S95, a minor update from S90 [Review]. Canon S9X series are advanced compact camera with manual exposure control and low light capability. I only notice 2 major differences among the two.

  • Canon S95  gets HD video recording (1280 x 720 resolution), S90 (only VGA or 640 x 480)
  • Canon S95 incorporates new Canon hybrid image stabilization that claims better IS especially for macro / close up work.
  • Slightly slimmer 29.5 mm thick and improved multi-control dial and the same external coating used on the EOS 7D to improve slip-resistance and grip. It also prevent finger mark.

Canon S95 will be selling at similar price as S90 ($399). Expect S90 price to go down a bit as the store clear their S90 inventory and replace it with S95.  For S90 owner, I don’t think it is worth to upgrade to S95.
