Olympus E-P3 – will it be the best m43 ever?

by Enche Tjin on June 27, 2011

Olympus will announce Olympus E-P3 soon, which is the third generation m43 designed for photography enthusiasts. Olympus’ micro four thirds system (especially the E-P line) has been plaqued with slow auto focus and lack of built-in flash.

Olympus E-P3 will attempt to solve those problem and try to be better than its coopetitor, Panasonic G micro four thirds system.

Some of the rumored Olympus E-P3 specs:

  • 12 MP sensor
  • Sensitivity up to 12800
  • built-in flash
  • 1080i video recording
  • Built-in body image stabilization
  • Faster AF system (especially with newly designed lenses)
  • touchscreen LCD screen with 600k resolution (quite high at the moment)
  • Body design similar to Olympus PEN E-P2 with some modifications

A new high quality lens, 12 mm f/2 (equiv to 24mm in 35mm format camera) and some sub model such as E-PL3 (focus on budget) and E-PM-1 (focus on portability) will be announced too.

It will be exciting to know how significant the new lens and camera perform.
