Nikon 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6 VR DX

Nikon 18-300mm VR DX is not yet released. But the photos and specs are leaking on the web already. It will have the longest zoom range (16.7x) which beats Tamron 18-270mm VC. The 18-300mm is designed for people who want to carry only one lens for travel.

It is longer (120mm vs 96,5mm) and heavier (830g vs 565g) than Nikon 18-200mm VR. Many people thinks that 200mm to 300mm will give a lot more reach, but in fact, you will only gain 4-5 degrees angle of view compared to 200mm. We don’t know the price yet, however, I’m sure that it will be over $1000 a piece.

Personally, I don’t like long zoom lens for DSLR cameras because it is big, heavy, slow (aperture), and quite expensive. I’d rather have kit lens 18-55mm with 55-200mm zoom lens. It will covers approximately the same angle. The combination will be lighter, cheaper and easier to use despite its auto focus is not silent.
