by Enche Tjin on April 18, 2012

The annual awards TIPA (Technical Image Press Association) is comprised of 29 representatives from the magazine and the Camera Journal Press Club of Japan, chose some excellent products from forty categories, including cameras and lenses. It almost seems that the categories are build so that everybody gets at least a slice of the cake.

Basically, I agree with the selections. Some category winner is too easy to decide. Throughout the month of April 2011 to April 2012, there are not many DSLR cameras being launched. Camera such as Canon 1DX and Nikon D800 has only one competitor. Nikon D5100 virtually has no competitor.

The most stringent category is CSC cameras (camera shaped like a pocket camera but it can change lenses). There are about six cameras that compete in entry level and advance CSC category. So, I congrats Panasonic GX1 and Olympus EPL3.

There are some unique cameras that doesn’t get recognized here such as Nikon 1 system, Samsung NX200, Pentax K01 and Olympus OM-D E-M5. Overall, it’s obviously a Compact system camera year.
