by Enche Tjin on August 8, 2012

Nikon J2 picture and new lens has been leaked. Unfortunately, spec wise, J2 is very similar to J1. The only difference is J2 will have high-res LCD (920k compared to 460k dots).

  • Here is leaked Nikon J2 spec:
  • 10.15 million pixel sensor, CX format, built-in image plane phase difference AF
  • EXPEED3 image processing engine
  • ISO range: 100-3200 with ISO high of 6400
  • Electronic shutter: 1/16000-30, Bulb, Time (when using the ML-L3)
  • 10 fps continuous shooting, 30 fps, 5 fps, 60 fps in high-speed continuous shooting mode
  • Video is 1920×1080 60i, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC compression method, MOV file format
  • Media: SD / SDHC / SDXC
  • 920,000 dot LCD monitor type 3 (J1 had 460k dot LCD)
  • Dimensions: 106mm x 61mm x 29.8mm
  • Weight: 237g (body only), 280g (with battery and SD card)
  • Eigth creative modes: miniature, select color, soft, easy panorama, backlight, night scene, night scene portrait, four exposure modes

In the same time, Nikon new lens for Nikon 1 system is also leaked. It is Nikkor 11-27.5mm f/3.5-5.6. It has narrower focal length compare to Nikon 10-30mm. However, it will be a bit more compact.

It is important for Nikon to get the lens as compact as possible because the competition from other mirrorless/compact system is huge. Let say Sony RX100 which has the same sensor as Nikon 1 but has 28-100mm f/1.8-4.9(35 format equivalent) retractable lens.

Nikon coolpix S800 : First smartphone with Android operating system

At the same time, Nikon Sb800 information is leaked:

The expected camera specs are:

  • 25-250 mm lens
  • 3.5″ OLED screen
  • The camera runs all Google Play apps
  • The camera will probably run Android 2.3
  • Built-in GPS
  • Built-in Wi-Fi
  • Possible announcement: August 22, 2012

This will be the first camera + smartphone that use Android. Possibly will be the best for casual travelers? In the future, maybe more cameras will have Android as its operating system because integration to internet will be important for sharing images.
