At a glance, Sony NEX 5R looks similar to Sony NEX 5N. On the top of camera, you will notice new control dial. New LCD will able to folds up 180 degrees like Sony NEX 3F.

Inside, there are some important improvement:

  • Hybrid AF (99 points Phase+ 25 area Contrast detect)
  • Wifi connectivity
  • 16 MP, APS-C size CMOS sensor
  • up to ISO 25600
  • Video recording AVCHD 1080/60p
  • Battery life: Approx 430 shoots

The star of this camera will be the autofocus system. Now it has hybrid AF, similar to Canon EOS M. It allows faster autofocus in low light condition and tracking moving subjects. Now, it can shoots 10 fps with subject tracking. Isn’t it impressive for camera this small?

Even though it has WiFi, you won’t be able to post photos to Facebook or other social networks immediately. Instead, you will able to post to Sony PlayMemories application. In the future, you might able to upload to facebook via that app.

Direct competitor will be Canon EOS M, the first Canon mirrorless camera. Compared to the Canon, Sony sports better technology inside  such as Wifi, better capacity and faster continuous shooting (10 vs 4.3fps)
