Sony RX1, Sony RX100.. and Sony RX10?

by Enche Tjin on September 10, 2012

Sony RX1 is a surprising move from Sony. It packs big, full frame image sensor into one compact body and fixed 35mm f/2 Zeiss lens. Unlike Sony RX100, RX1 is not something everybody would like to buy. It has fixed (non-interchangeable lens) and $2799 price tag.

Image quality will be stellar. It is high probability that Sony uses the same image sensor to high-end DSLR/SLT cameras such as Sony A99 and Nikon D600 (both will be soon announced).

One might wonder if there will be RX10. It is possible that RX10 will sit between RX10 and RX1. It might has APS-C sensor similar to Fuji X100 and Leica X2.

Failed to dominate DSLR market these year, Sony tries new way to capture niche market. Sony has develops highly successful Sony RX100 (compact with relatively big 1″ sensor), and RX1.

These whole thing reminds me of Fujifilm, which has the same strategy with their products: X10 (advanced compact), X100 (APS-C sensor compact), and XSi (superzoom).
