Nikon 70-200mm f/4 VR – Great for travel and video

by Enche Tjin on October 24, 2012

Nikon is quite behind in quality telephoto lens collection compared to Canon. Nikon only has 70-200mm f/2.8 VR ($2399), while Canon has 70-200mm f/4, f/4 IS, f/2.8 and f/2.8 IS.

It is four lenses against one. But today, Nikon finally announced its 70-200mm f/4 VR (MRSP $1399). This lens will be great for travel because it is relatively lightweight (850 g) compared to its older brother 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II (1540 g).

Nikon also claims it has the latest VR (Vibration Reduction) technology that capable to reduce shake up to 5 stops. According to Press Release, it will be also ideal for handheld video recording.

The design is almost the same with Canon… Nikon is really catching up in the lens lineup… I won’t be surprised if Canon releases a Version II of the F4 series…

Yes Paolo, including tripod collar marketing strategy. Nikon is selling it separate instead of together with the lens. It is quite expensive :)
