DSLR Camera buying guide: Good deal for summer holiday 2013

by Enche Tjin on June 18, 2013

Summer holiday is a good time to get quality cameras to capture your experience.  I am picking some quality DSLR cameras with good value-price ratio. I pick entry-level camera, mid-range and advanced. Please feel free to click on the picture to learn more information and latest pricing about each camera.

Nikon D3100 + 18-55mm VR lens
D3100 is small and lighweight DSLR but it is quite sturdy. It has good feature set as entry-level camera. Image quality is also very good. It has 14 MP CMOS APS-C sensor. Image quality is still good up to ISO 1600. Price is very affordable which is $450. This include the 18-55mm lens with built-in stabilization to prevent camera shake.

Pentax K30 with 18-135mm WR lens
This camera has very good features, and comparing to its competitors, K30 is $100-300 cheaper. K30 is weathersealed, able to withstand rain, and extreme temperature. It’s 18-135mm WR lens is water resistant. There are a few camera + lens that has complete weathersealing ability with the price below $1000.

Canon EOS 6D body only
Full frame DSLR camera usually cost above $2000, but Canon 6D is different. It breaks the record because it is only around $1600 now, almost the same as advanced APS-C sensor DSLR camera. Although it has several downsides, such as limited max. flash sync speed 1/180 second, and only has 1 cross type autofocus point (11 AF point total). 6D is great for enthusiasts photographer who is looking for affordable full frame camera for the first time. Image quality is very good up to ISO 3200.
