Rumor: Fujifilm X-M1

by Enche Tjin on June 21, 2013

Fujifilm will release Fujifilm X-M1 soon. This camera is smaller than XPRO-1 and X-E1. It doesn’t has electronic viewfinder but it has tilting LCD screen and X-Trans Sensor similar to the other Fujifilm X cameras. So we can safely assume that it will yield same excelent image quality. To me, the design looks similar to Sony NEX-6.

I think generally photography enthusiasts on budget will love it. According to rumor, body only will be around $600 which is quite affordable. For rangefinder enthusiasts, it might be a bit disappointment because you lose the shutter speed dial, and exposure compensation dial. Looking from the leaked picture, we see the new zoom lens, Fujinon 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS. Unfortunately, this lens doesn’t has aperture ring like other Fujinon lenses.

Fuji will also release 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens. This tiny lens will not has aperture ring either. So will this new more modern/mainstream design will work or will this alienate existing Fuji X series fans? I see this is a good move for Fuji to reach lower end of the market, it will make easier for everybody to get into the system.
