Hi, Thanks for posting such useful information. I have recently purchased Nikon D7000 and I am completely new to the world of SLR / Photography. I got the NIKON 18-105mm kit lens and additionally bought Nikon 50mm f/1.8 based on suggestions from a friend of mine. Could you recommend lenses for D7000?
Thanks!

AF-S means the lens has built-in auto focus motor. Nikon D3100 and several others Nikon beginner SLR cameras do not have auto focus motor. So When you use AF or AF-D lenses, you will be stuck with manual focus. Therefore I recommend AF-S lenses for Nikon D3000, D3100, and a few others.

I just purchase a nikon d3100 digital camera and would like to purschase a lens for shooting closeups. I have a nikonFM I purchased back in the 80's and a 55mm macro lens I use all the time, but was told it will not work in my new camera. I looked at your site and see you suggest a 60mm AFS . Can you tell me the difference between a AFS and a AF ? Will a AF work on this camera? I've been looking at lenses and notice theres a big difference in price for each of these. I want to purchase the one that is the easiest to use , as I'm just a novice and don't know alot about these new cameras. thanks jandon

The Minolta lenses that you mention here are beginner/consumer grade lenses. So the image quality is average to below average. Whether you want to change system or get Sony is entirely up to you. You will able to save some money with staying with Sony. And I think Sony A550 is actually a bit better than Nikon D90. However, if you want to sell the lenses and get a high quality ones, you should research more on Sony and Nikon system to see which system suit you best.
